Wimberley Fig Tree
The Fig Tree Outreach Program is a source of nutritional support for children in need in Wimberley, Texas.

The Wimberley Fig Tree is a non-profit organization that grew out of a passion for children, helping others and feeding those in need. Our goal is to provide support to children in the Wimberley area who struggle with a consistent source of food. The story of hunger is all too real for many children right here in our community!

Children who rely on the school free or reduced meal program for their daily nutrition often times have empty plates throughout the weekend. School staff [nurses and teachers] identify children who would benefit from our program. We then provide those children with backpacks filled with easy-to-open foods to eat when they might otherwise have gone hungry.

Here’s some helpful information:

  • Every child enrolled receives the same food.
  • All food is non-perishable and requires minimal preparation (in case the child prepares the meal).
  • The teachers put the food in the backpacks in a way that does not draw attention or single the student out
  • Sample foods in the backpacks include: canned vegetables and beans, applesauce, peanut butter, corn tortillas, 2 granola bars, oatmeal, cereal, canned chicken, pasta, and two servings of fruit

The most sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to our sponsors and donors for making a positive commitment to our community.
